As to be expected, most of the security was down here. As the pirates were rapidly trying to discover how the ship operated.

As the team crawled closer to engineering, Rai could hear some voices coming from the other end of the tubes where the opening hatch was. Unfortunately for the very tall Romulan, he only could access his phaser at the moment so he stopped crawling and turned his body as best he could to his team behind him. "Can someone scan up ahead for life signs? I hear people, but we should know how many we're up against," He said in a low whisper.

They would quickly learn that there were 35 life signs up ahead.

Lt. Cdr. Cory Wilkinson | ENG BOT 06-Dec-22 03:26 AM
Cory was crawling close behind Rai now that the other team had gone the opposite way. "Yes," he whispered back, voice quiet as ever as he scanned for life signs with his tricorder. "Thirty-five," he said with a little bit of a sigh, turning the screen of the tricorder so that Rai could confirm the readings. "Probably not great to go straight in there or anything," he continued to whisper. Luckily, that was something he was really good at from being so shy all those years of his life!

“Yes I concur. And I don’t think I can afford to do that thing with the site-to-site transporter again. They caught on and locked me out.” A new voice joined in on the party, her arrival was so completely unexpected it was almost as if she had appeared out of thin air.

Rai nearly jumped out of his skin when the hologram appeared. He... Did not artificial intelligence or holograms very much. He knew his prejudice was illogical and a product of his upbringing, but he couldn't help but feel unsettled by the presence of the EMH. "Well, I have a stun grenade, what if we climbed up another level and then dropped the grenade from above? And then-- let me wrestle the disruptors out of their hands, trust me, I got this."
Avatar
EMH XIV BOT 06-Dec-22 03:40 AM
“That could work. I assume you’re here to retake the ship?” The hologram asked, she was programmed to recognize all members of the Mercury crew, and the construction team, and she did not recognize these people. So either they were pirates or Starfleet. “Your local EMH at your service. I’ve been active for hours, the computer brought me online as soon as it recognized the ship wide emergency. Slowly I’ve been able to retake certain areas of the ship but.. suffice it to say, I’m not a commando.”

Erei'Riov Rai tr'Torre'vnau | TAC BOT 06-Dec-22 03:49 AM
"Despite what my face and uniform may suggest, yes we are the good guys and here to retake the ship," Rai hid his discomfort well but... He was not very confident about working with a hologram. He gestured for his team to follow him down to another junction with a ladder so they could crawl into the tubes above engineering. "Hey, can I ask, is everyone armed with disruptors? Man, that makes me sick thinking about it," Rai spoke softly, looking over his shoulder at Cory, probably the beefiest guy on his team. "I will toss the grenade down and then Cory can you go first? You're probably the scariest looking guy with us, ehh, I don't think I look very scary," Rai said, he was intimidating with his sheer height and beefiness, but his pretty smokey eye make up and glitter on his freckled cheeks and ears was well-- not very scary. If anything he looked ready to walk down the runway, not deck some pirates.

Cory was a little spooked by the hologram as well, his grip on the ladder he was currently on tightening before realizing that this was Fine. Well, it was Fine until Rai suggested that he go first into the crowd of 35 probably armed officers. In fact, he ran the tricorder to see what exactly they were armed with, was it all disruptors? "Um..." He focused his attention onto the tricorder's readings, trying to get that out of the way first as he followed Rai's path, "am I really that..." he looked across at the rest of the group. Yes, he was the scariest-looking one here, he supposed, even if he didn't exactly have the Scary Energy to put it entirely out there. "Yes, that should be fine," he said, looking down at the tricorder to see the results on what weapons were present in the room ahead.

“I have limited access to the ship’s systems. So yes, I can indeed confirm that they do have disruptors and they are set to kill.” The EMH shrugged. “I don’t know if they even have a stun setting.” She said talking rather quickly and with energy almost akin to a teenager. “So you’re the boss. What do you want me to do?”

"Disruptors only have one setting. The weapon is called such because it disrupts your molecules. The weapon of choice of my people, not that I'm very proud of that. We're slowly phasing them out-- pun intended, thank you I am here all week-- but anyway, one shot and then you're gone. No body either, very efficient if you're the Tal Shiar," Rai explained. He gave Cory a nod and proceeded up the ladder. "And for you, umm-- Helping hologram, I think you should go with Cory since you're immune to the disruptor fire-- could you help to disarm the guards? We can't do anything if we're being shot at," He instructed the EMH, still not sure what to call her, but he was going to try and work in tandem with artificial intelligence! She was extremely valuable to them after all. The group finally reached the top of the ladder and Rai pulled himself to his knees. It was so hard having to literally contort his body to fit into the tubes, but it was what it was. He slowly removed the hatch and tossed his stun grenade down in the middle of the room.

Okay, the idea of him going first down into the crowd of disruptor-carrying officers was scary, but when Rai made that beautiful pun about phasing the disruptors out, he couldn't help but laugh, holding a hand over his mouth. "Sorry, that was - that was really good," he said, now smiling at Rai as he continued to follow up the ladder. "So, you're going to be throwing the stun grenade, and then after it goes off, I go down?" He asked, just trying to double-check this plan, but then the stun grenade had been tossed down and he gulped. Well, it was now or never, he supposed! He waited until it went off before heading down into the room, though, since, well. It would suck to go in and get stunned by their own stun grenade.

The plan was already in motion, the grenade flew down and tumbled on the railing before being picked up by the officers, they reached down to try and pick it up. But the pulse already expelled and then men were struck by an affect akin to motion sickness. Allowing Cory and the EMH to rush the guards.

The holographic doctor without hesitation pounced over to take those disruptors, of course to fire at here was just… unnecessary. Of course they tried to do so, and were taken aback when they realized she seemed to be invincible.

Now that the men on this level were disabled, they had access to these systems. Forcefields could probably be established. At least on this deck.

And rush the guards Cory did do, together with the EMH, who, if he wasn't an engineer with basic knowledge on holograms, he would would really be questioning how a hologram could take disruptors from people, but like... it worked, somehow. Wrestling the disruptors from these guys was very easy thanks to Rai's stun grenade effect! Speaking of Rai, he looked over to where Rai was. "Systems are pretty open now," he said, walking over to one of the consoles and looking it over, at least it wasn't an unknown system or anything.

Rai followed the two and dropped down, grabbing a disruptor from one of the fallen guards and holding it firmly in his hands. There was a brief moment where a rush of anger surged through his whole body as he looked at the all too familiar weapon. The green accents on the sides, the weight in his hands, it was a weapon that had the power to kill millions. Wearing the Republic uniform whilst also carrying the favourite weapon of the Tal Shiar felt... So wrong. But at the same time there was a part of him that didn't want to let go. 'You can run, Rai, but you will always come back to the Empire because we are Romulan, Romulans will always serve Romulans. After spacing out for nearly two minutes, Rai was pulled from his thoughts when he heard his teammate call out to him and that's when he remembered their mission. "Yes, first let's establish forcefields on this deck, then try to gain access and disable the whole ship, weapons, shields, warp, we want to make sure the Rapture can catch us," Rai was speaking to Cory, but his eyes were still on the gun. His gaze narrowed and his hands pulled at both sides of the weapon until , 'crack', Rai tossed the two halves of the disruptor to the ground and walked over to Cory, breathing heavily, but he was free. If they were to to so, they had to make it quick. Because the pirates had already gotten word and reinforcements were already on the way to engineering. Normally this would be second nature to the away team. But for this LCARS system, it felt a little different, one might say clunky. There seemed to be a back up for a back up. And all of the main systems were routed to the bridge, so lockouts were established. Making the away team’s mission all the more difficult.

Cory nodded, also moving to a console near Tyhr and working to establish forcefields on the desk as well, but ... the backups were a bit tricky to move through. "Trying now, sir, but there's... they've set up their backups... well." he said as he started sorting through the backups and trying to find a vulnerability in the system somewhere that would let him go around them. He honestly couldn't blame them; he was the one in charge of setting up backups on ships like the USS Obama when he was the CEO there, and had made it just as - if not more, complicated, but at least that gave him some experience to work with here! "To set up forcefields we need to get through at least one of those backups." At least was the key word.

Whilst the others worked, Rai was dragging the fallen guards towards a corner in the room so they could erect forcefields around them and not have the guards inside. He was gentle with his work, not to hurt anyone! After he did this, he grabbed a few disruptors and pulled them apart with his bare hands again. He also grabbed a disruptor rifle and cracked it over his knee. This is why he worked out so much. Like a true gym bro, Rai grunted as he destroyed each of the disruptors, using this as an opportunity to let out his emotions.

"Can you disable warp? We need to keep this ship from moving or else the Rapture will never catch us," Rai wished he had some engineering experience, but he did not and he didn't trust himself to navigate the clunky LCARS of this experimental vessel. He had already broken every disruptor in the room so there wasn't much left for him to do aside from be ready with his phaser in case the pirates came to try to stop them.
Avatar
Lt. Cdr. Cory Wilkinson | ENG BOT 07-Dec-22 02:26 AM
"I can try!" Cory said as he went back, away from all the backups they had been working through since the forcefield was now established - or, at least he'd attempted to set one up - and started going through this clunky LCARS to reach the section controlling the connection to the warp drive. If he could get to that through the system, he'd try to shut it off directly - "If a direct shutdown doesn't work, our best bet will.. probably be overloading power to somewhere else so that the warp doesn't have enough to start."
Avatar
Narrator BOT 07-Dec-22 02:34 AM
According to the master systems display. If someone were to generate an inverse warp field, it would essentially be the equivalent of sending a bubble through someone’s bloodstream and causing a cardiac arrest, such an event would cause a disruption in all power systems. Killing two birds with one stone, the team would cut power temporarily and cause a massive distraction. However this was literally not recommended, in fact. There was a warning sticker on the warp core NOT TO DO THIS. In fact, this vessel seemed to have an abundance of design flaws that the team could take advantage of. Perks of being a prototype.

Rai resisted the urge to face palm at that very moment, were they really done for? The tubes were going to be flooded with poison gas, the pirates knew their location, oh fuck where was Rapture? Before Rai could give another order the ship began to shake violently, causing him to fall and drop his phaser, just a very tall Romulan rolling on the floor like a log.

On top of the barrel roll, the lights went from static to flashing on and off briefly. When the computer chimed in, and in a brand new voice that sounded almost mockingly friendly. “Warning, stability control offline, main power offline. Switching to warp core beta.” The ship ceased it’s rolling maneuver as soon as the computer had shuffled to the secondary warp core.
